Real math is a creative, self-expressive, open-ended exploration of whatever the imagination can grab ahold of. You learn real math the same way you learn art, science, literature, or history. You cannot learn real math from a math curriculum.

Making Mathematicians is not another math curriculum. It’s an online course for homeschool parents. It will teach you what real math is, show you how it’s learned, and give you concrete steps to teach it to your kids.

 I slogged through math classes as a kid, but somehow ended up homeschooling a child with a passion for all things numbers. Enter: Making Mathematicians. It’s a whole new way of seeing mathematics–and the way our imaginations shape the world. Working through this course, I have gone from an calculator-clutching adult who barely scraped by in arithmetic, to an excited scholar who can’t stop talking about the newest ideas in my math sketchbook. This course starts with you––yes, your education matters too!––and then gives you step-by-step instructions on how to mentor your children along their own journey.

I absolutely loved Making Mathematicians. I started shifting my mindset right away and trying out their questions to deepen my “real math” skills, and I’m so inspired. The suggestions and possibilities they opened me up to literally had me staying up doing math and doing math on the toilet. Now, I’m working my way through one of their book suggestions. I was always interested in math even back when I only understood it as curriculum math. Now, I have a sense of freedom and discovery with math that I didn’t know was possible. I find myself laughing; it’s so fun. My kids are still young, so we are working on the most basic things. It’s fun to do so with this sense of openness.
